Busy Beginnings

Busy Beginnings Busy. That was the adjective for this last week. The funny thing was that it was not caused by classes and schoolwork, but instead, by getting set up for school with clubs and supplies. As a transfer student, I have found that the greatest hurdle to overcome was the moving in and routine process for attending a university, which in this case is the University of Illinois. I have spent my first few days on campus making trips to Walmart, picking driving/biking/bus routes, and stocking up on food and supplies. Who knew picking out rugs took as much effort and measurements as putting in cabinets. Anyway, I had to make two trips to the store to get that straightened out and pick up some dishes and kitchen supplies. Afterwards, I made sure I purchased plenty of food from ALDI and bathroom goods. Once that was done, I shifted my focus to planning class routes. (Courtesy: rohinishops.com) To my surprise, I found that a couple of classes were nearly back to back and almost a mile apart. Good thing I brought a bike. Then, I continued to walk the routes from class to class until they became well timed and clear as day, which seemed somewhat like a test in itself, but I prevailed. The simple thing was finding bus/car routes because of a good little tool called Google Maps. Finding myself settled, I set out to pick some clubs. Club searching actually was fairly easy due to the school fair I attended the weekend earlier. Personally, I chose Illini Motorsports for its extreme hands on environment and due to my love of racing/vehicles. In doing so, I attended the opening meeting as was astonished at the turnout. The meeting room was packed and attending was flexible with your workload. After asking for drivers’ tryouts, I left excited for the next meeting, and the only contribution of schoolwork that packed my week was an online quiz and reading. My follow up question for the University of Illinois: What’s next? (Courtesy: motosports.illinois.edu) Jacob Class of 2018 I am a transfer student studying Engineering Physics in the College of Engineering. I started with the Illinois Engineering Pathways program through the College of DuPage. I am from Naperville, Illinois.
